And now... everyone does. I’m using one right now, and have two at home that look EXACTLY like the one Broccoli Barclay is using. Another case of Star Trek predicting the future?

Wasn’t that Star Trek on for like 50 years or whatever? I mean they’ve had to stumble onto some correct predictions sooner or later...

Straight up aluminum wouldn't work all that great. I prefer my plastic, wrapped in aluminum, and then wrapped in plastic. It's an insulated bottle that really works. I've had ice last all day in that thing with it shut. Plus it's still squishy since it's more of an aluminum foil than just a hard bottle.

Wait until my 5/8" tool steel water bottle hits the market. I'll make billions! You'll see!

But... what happened to transparent aluminum?

No chance of buying a regular looking one and anodizing/dying it yourself?

He’ll always be “Howling Mad” Barclay to me. And I’d hope that bottle is stainless steel rather than aluminum. I don’t have any metal water bottles though (except one for the dog). I’ve got some Nalgene bottles for general use , a Camelbak for hiking/long bike rides , and some Camelbak bike bottles for cycling.

I prefer stainless steel over aluminum, myself.
But it’s really not all that surprising they chose it. They were around, and definitely much fancier than the plastic junk everyone else used, if they even bothered with reusable bottles.

People were using aluminum water bottles long before Star Trek. They just had a cooler name back then - canteens.

I'm going to make my bottle out of depleted uranium instead.

I think I meant stainless, I’m pretty sure that’s what my bottles are. No markings on the one I take to work everyday, so idk.

Yeah but they weren’t common. Nowadays nearly 1/2 of all the people you see are carrying a metal bottle on their person or in their auto.

If we’re comparing military 20th century to military 24th, yeah. But I meant more on a civilian scale. Back in the day only Boy Scouts and outdoorsmen had canteens they took everywhere. Now everyone that works in a cubicle and drives a Camry to work in it all day has one.

My brain said aluminum, but I meant stainless steel. I think that’s what most of my own bottles are made of, and probably the one on the show.

I have to say that where I am in Philly it is definitely way way lower than half of people lol. I’d say 10% if that

I want to say that SIGG and maybe a couple others made them, but they were very expensive and pretty rare. Most people
just used HDPE plastic bottles like Nalgenes. They held twice as much, nobody knew what BPA was, and no dents :D

Back then they were single wall aluminum canteens. Barclay is likely single wall SS. Modern bottles and cups are mostly vacuum insulated double wall SS.

I thought they couldnt see where they set it down after they made it..
